| Mid-MO
AHEC places medical, nursing, and allied health professions students in
training with preceptors in rural and underserved areas for hands-on clinical
rotation opportunities. This community-based approach to training makes
it possible for students to gain real-world experience while getting a taste
of life in rural Missouri. In addition, communities have the chance to build
relationships with the students and recruit these future health care providers
back to practice locally. |
Allopathic and osteopathic medical students, nursing students, physician
assistant students, and health-related professions students come to mid-Missouri
to participate in clinical rotations lasting from two weeks to two years
in length.

Community-based
education is taking place in a growing number of mid-Missouri hospitals,
clinics, and health departments. Medical students, residents, nursing, nurse
practitioner and physician assistant students develop their skills by performing
physical examinations, taking patient histories, conducting patient assessments
and formulating patient management plans, as well as providing health education
services. In addition the students may participate in hospital rounds, assist
in surgeries, and deliver babies.
Allied health students complete clinical training rotations and develop
patient-provider skills in mid-Missouri hospitals and clinics as well.
As a student training
at a Mid-MO AHEC clinical site, you may be provided with access to off-campus
housing, online computer workstations, and educational didactics opportunities
at your local training site.

Privace and Security Policy
The Missouri Area Health
Education (MAHEC) statewide system aims to enhance access to quality health
care - particularly primary and preventative care - by improving the supply
and distribution of health care professionals through community/academic
educational partnerships. These efforts are supported in part with funds
from the Missouri DHSS; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS), Bureau of Health Professionals (BHrP); and local support mechanisms.
Additional information about MAHEC may be obtained at www.mahec.org
