AHEC Career
Enhancement Scholars
This
multi-pronged program provides Missouri pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-nursing,
and undergraduate students with comprehensive career planning and assistance
toward a future career in primary health care. Each student's individual
career plan is custom-designed to meet their needs in becoming a physician
or dentist.
What do ACES+ students
receive?
ACES+ students gain a competitive edge in attaining their health career
goals due to Missouri AHEC's resources and partnerships with health professional
schools and universities.
- Shadowing experiences
and mentoring with physicians and dentists;
- Academic workshops
with hands-on science labs, professional skill-building seminars, and
presentations by Missouri medical and dental schools;
- Customized career
counseling including information on financial aid and other educational
resources;
- Priority consideration
for financial aid from the PRIMO
forgivable loan
- Access to a variety
of other opportunities including paid internships, visiting with legislators,
community service projects, and more!
Who should apply
to the ACES+ program?
- Missouri undergraduate
students who want to pursue a career as a:
- Physician specializing
in family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics
- Dentist of general
practice
- Nurse with bachelor's
or master's degree
- Students whose
hometown is a rural
or health professional shortage area in Missouri
- Students with at
least a 3.0 GPA.
