Workshop

For high school students interested in a Health Career

Did you know that health care provided 14.3 million jobs in 2008 and that 10 of the 20 fastest growing occupations nationally are health care related?

Now is the time to start planning your career in health care! Health occupations combine medical technology and human touch to diagnose, treat and care for millions of people from newborns to the terminally ill.

Health care employment is available in large cities and small towns – all hours of the day and all days of the week.  While most workers have jobs that require less than four years of college education, those practitioners who diagnose and treat patients are highly educated.

Mid-Missouri AHEC wants to help you to “Jumpstart Your Health Career.”  Join us for a workshop day exploring the health careers.  When you leave, you’ll have a perspective on how to:

  • conduct basic patient assessments,
  • avoid spreading infection,
  • protect patient information, and
  • how local health care providers made their career journey from high school to health professional

PLUS, as an added feature, “Jumpstart” participants will also receive access to an on-line health science course that you can complete on your own at a location and time convenient for you!   The “Client Status Module” will reinforce the science behind measuring patient vital signs and the significance of normal and abnormal ranges. Don’t wait any longer.

The six-hour course and on-line companion are available for an introductory rate of only $60.  To register click here.
